Place the tray where the client can easily see and reach it, typically on the overbed table at a comfortable height. This supports safety, independence, and dignity during mealtime: the client can identify what’s offered, signal for help if needed, and participate in feeding. A visible, reachable tray also helps the CNA monitor intake and watch for swallowing difficulties.

Placing the tray on the floor, in a cabinet, or hidden behind the nurse would make it hard for the client to see or reach, undermining safety, autonomy, and proper feeding supervision.
